Group of people smiling The Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced Brooke Clevenger and Andrea Kleoppel, teachers at Oltman Middle School, as the winners of the 2019 Educator of the Year Award. The pair were surprised with the news by representatives of the Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce and South Washington County Schools at a staff meeting. They were then formally recognized at the 2019 Cottage Grove Area Chamber Annual Banquet held on September 26 at Tinucci’s Restaurant and Catering in Newport.

Andrea Kleoppel teaches 7th-grade social studies and career and college readiness. Brooke Clevenger teaches 8th-grade language arts. Both were nominated by Oltman Middle School Principal Joni Hagebock for creating a student mentoring program. The program provides students with support and positive encouragement outside of the school day. Both Brooke and Andrea volunteer their time for the program and have built connections between the school, students, families, the community and local businesses.

Every year, the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce recognizes educators who show exceptional skill and dedication to education and for having a positive influence in the lives of students in their school community.
