Oltman Family Update

Week of September 6, 2021

Hello Oltman Families!

We had a wonderful first “week” with our students!  Students met their teachers, found their classrooms, did introductory activities, and received their brand new Chromebooks (this was a highlight for many!)  Here is the Chromebook Care video that was shared with students in their Advisory class on Wednesday.  Also, here are the Chromebook Expectations for students. Please reinforce the expectations for use and care of Chromebooks with your child/children.  If you are interested in the optional protection plan available to all families, see the “Good to Know” section below.

During language arts classes, students will be taking part in classroom lessons from Common Sense Education©. Common Sense helps students learn the habits and skills they need to use technology safely and responsibly in school, at home, and beyond. For more information about Common Sense Education and digital citizenship, please read our OMS Digital Citizenship Family Letter.

Finally, we need your assistance to help your child remember to charge their Chromebook every night! Their Chromebook is used every day in every class, and a full charge will last the entire school day.  The charging cord and block can be left at home (recommended) if their Chromebook is fully charged when they start each day. Here’s a helpful tip from a student… “Set an alarm on your cell phone (or a parent’s cell phone) to remind you to plug in your Chromebook before you go to bed every night!”

For the most up-to-date school related information, please visit the Oltman Middle School webpage. At any time, if you have a question and/or need assistance, please contact Oltman Middle School directly at 651-425-3500 or

Have a marvelous Sunday, and remember, there is no school Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday!

High School Football Games

No elementary or middle school students will be admitted to a home high school football game in SoWashCo Schools unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. This expectation has been adopted by several other schools in our conference as well as the metro area. We encourage all parents to discuss this policy with their children before bringing them to the games. If students enter the gates with their parents, we would expect that they sit with them throughout the entire game. Students who loiter in the concourse or grassy areas often cause a concern for the other fans that are there to watch the game. This policy will also help us follow our COVID Guidelines for spectators at an event. We hope parents can help us enforce this policy.

Daily Schedule (Including Lunches)

Grade 6, 7 , and 8 (one document)

Grade 6 Daily Schedule

Grade 7 Daily Schedule

Grade 8 Daily Schedule

“Day A” and “Day B” Classes

Some classes are offered every other day for students.  Most commonly, this occurs with phy ed and music classes, but there are other classes that run on an A/B (every other day) schedule, too.  If there are 2 classes listed in a class period on your child’s schedule, these are every other day classes. For example, 2nd period, I might have PE and choir listed for second period.  In this case, I go to phy ed on “A” days and choir on “B” days.
